Physician-Scientist Research Symposium 2024

When:
Where:
Mission Bay Conference Center in the William J. Rutter Center 1675 Owens Street, San Francisco

Event Overview

This event is in person only.

The creation of durable knowledge that can enhance human health demands testing at the bedside as well as in the laboratory. Physician-scientists are well-positioned to bridge the ever-widening distance between practicing clinicians and fundamental scientific disciplines. Unfortunately, over the last 30 years, as resources and institutionally-supported time dedicated to research have become increasingly scarce, proportionately fewer physician-scientists have committed to a research-intensive career. To apply the power of fundamental scientific discovery to human health, the supply of early-career physician-scientists must be sustained and replenished.

The Physician-Scientist Research Symposium aims to bring together physician-scientists from UCSF and Stanford University, with CZ Biohub San Francisco as the convergence point, in order to build a research community of early-career physician-scientists and advocate for the continued engagement of physicians in scientific discovery.

About

The symposium celebrates the research accomplishments of the CZ Biohub SF Physician-Scientist Fellows from UCSF and Stanford who have participated in a research training and career development program to develop their expertise and prepare them for careers as independent investigators.

In addition to research talks from our fellows, the symposium will feature a research and career retrospective keynote by Dr. Tippi MacKenzie, who is a Professor of Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco, and the Director of the Eli and Edythe Broad Institute for Regeneration Medicine. The symposium will be followed by a poster and networking session. We warmly invite early-career physician-scientists at UCSF and Stanford to join us and present a poster on their research.
